  1. [BJ The Chicago Kid ft. Kendrick Lamar - “His Pain”]

“I don’t know He keep blessing me, I don’t know he keep blessing me…”

What a song. Simmering vibes throughout.

Turns out BJ The Chicago Kid, whom I am familiar with his appearance on Kendrick Lamar’s O.verly D.edicated and Section.80 project, “R.O.T.C.” and “Kush & Corinthians” respectively, has a solo project Pineapple Now-Laters (by the way, Banana is my fav flavor of Now-Laters) in the works and the first track to surface is this track with the Kendrick.

You know how folks owe you some favours and when it’s time to nudge them for the favour to be returned and then the person returning goes up and beyond expectations… that’s what I think BJ must have felt after hearing Kendrick’s lyrics and the angle he decided to portray on the track.

Kendrick uses some of his familiar themes of the dichotomy of the godly and devilish ways within us humans and spits what really is a poem of a first-person narration of an individual who questions the blessing he his receiving amongst the undeserving nature of his situations. This poem is brought to life the expression of suppressed pain that breaks through the words seams and Kendrick executes with his tone. Superb.

    Great.

    “Somehow you keep blessing me.”

    Peace
